PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A bicyclist is recovering after being struck by a police vehicle during a chase in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties section.
"It looks really bad," said Madison Postlewait, from Spring Garden.
Around 3 p.m. on Sunday, police -- using their lights and sirens -- were attempting to stop a silver Honda CR-V that was allegedly connected to a previous shooting that occurred in the 1600 block of Juniata Street.
Police tried to pull over the vehicle in the 1900 block of West Allegheny Avenue.
While traveling in the eastbound lanes in the 700 block of Spring Garden, police say the silver Honda CR-V entered the bike lane and a police vehicle subsequently struck a 68-year-old man riding his bicycle, as well as another Honda CR-V.
The bike was left a mangled mess of metal in the intersection.
The original Honda CR-V that police were attempting to stop then fled the scene of the crash.
"Trying to do your job and that happens, but it's the city of Philadelphia, it's getting bad out, here real bad," said Michael Grice, of Olney.
"I bike to work every day so I commute from here to West Philly. I always see those white bikes that are a memorial for all the bikers who have passed. Whenever I see that I always worry about what happened to that person, but I see that as something that could happen to myself or any other biker that's on a street that's not protected by cars," said Postlewait.
"Judging from the bike, it's not good," said Grice.
The 68-year-old was transported to Jefferson Hospital for minor injuries and is now in stable condition.
The driver of the other Honda CR-V was not injured.
