PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- There is exciting news for foodies in Philadelphia.
Michelin Guide inspectors are in the field and are on the hunt for culinary gems in the city.
The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced a partnership with the Michelin Guide, ensuring our city will be considered for inclusion in its global dining guidebook.
On Tuesday, Mayor Cherelle Parker gifted a Liberty Bell to Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the guide.
"Inspectors have been in the field already for quite some time," said Poullennec before touring some of Philadelphia's tastiest spots, including the Reading Terminal Market.
Local chefs are energized, and state and city leaders are too. The industry contributes more than $86 billion to our economy and supports 680,000 jobs.
The city has received a total of 70 James Beard Awards, including six wins for chefs at restaurants and bars.
Governor Josh Shapiro said the impact goes beyond dining rooms. "Our farmers are sourcing the food that so many people enjoy here in Philadelphia," he said.
The guide's selection process is determined by anonymous inspectors and is independent.
We won't know which restaurants were chosen until next year.
